Dr Maarten Blaauw

Maarten Blaauw

Maarten works on estimating the ages of sediment cores, using radiocarbon dating, tephra and dedicated modelling.

He applies these methods through many international collaborations, for example recently on Lake Challa on Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya, Lago Chalco in Mexico City, tephra deposits in Kamchatka (Russian Far East) and several bogs in northern Iceland. He is particularly interested in the possibilities and uncertainties involved in palaeoecology and climatology.
